"Memoirs of a Marauder Man" - Part B In-Person
Technical Sergeant Joe Girz flew 57 combat missions in the Mediterranean and European Theaters during World War II, as a Radio Operator-Waist Gunner in B-26 Martin Marauder bombers. Flying out of Sardinia, Corsica, and Dijon, France, between August 1944 and May 1945, he and his crewmates flew bombing missions to hit specific German targets in Italy, France, and Germany.
His son Tom has compiled his father’s diaries, personal logs, and official mission records into a thrilling retrospective about true patriotism, courage, and survival – not uncommon traits in those we now refer to as The Greatest Generation.
In this Part B talk - sub-titled “A Matter of Inches” - Tom will continue sharing his father’s wartime stories with some of TSgt Girz’s most closest call missions. Seating is limited and registration is necessary.
Tom Girz lives in Washington Township and has been interested in family history and WWII for 40+ years. A career civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force for over 32 years, Tom held his retirement ceremony from federal service in 2016 at the National Museum of the USAF, in front of the B-26 Martin Marauder display to commemorate both his, and his father's service to our nation.
