Exhibit: Virginia Burroughs with "Branches" In-Person
Virginia Burroughs calls her series "Branches" ironic because what fascinates her about the bare winter trees is how much they remind her of people: various shapes, "arms" twisting, reaching, and growing up out of those body-trunks. By overlaying 3-to-5 photos, she is able to emphasize how much we intertwine, depend on one another, reaching, striving, sometimes struggling against one another -- so much like now.
Virginia holds a BFA from the School of the Dayton Art Institute and University of Dayton, Master of Humanities from Wright State University, teaching certification from the University of Dayton; solo shows in Dayton, numerous group shows in Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, and around Ohio, Chicago, New York City (MOMA, Committed to Print, 1988), California, and Alaska. Her photographs are included in the permanent collection at the Dayton Art Institute, in an artist book in the collection of the Cincinnati Public Library, and her work is included in numerous private collections.
